120 Yemeni students in China refuse to be evacuated to UAE

Dozens of Yemeni students have refused to be evacuated from the Chinese city of Wuhan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), sources reported on Wednesday.

The sources explained that 120 Yemen students preferred to stay in the Chinese city of Wuhan after the sudden delay of their flight to the UAE, which was supposed to take place last week.

The flight that took off Wednesday, March 4, from Wuhan Airport in China to Abu Dhabi Airport, was carrying 300 students from Yemen, Mauritania and Sudan, while the expected number of Yemeni students did not leave, as only 58 students left, according to Yemeni sources.

About 120 students and their families stayed in Wuhan after the students decided not to leave, the sources added.

One of the students, who declined to travel, said that “the evacuation process came late, after the virus has spread to most countries of the world, including the UAE.”

“We preferred to stay with our families here in Wuhan, as China is safe today, after the virus has spread in other countries, in addition to the start of study in some universities,” some students, who preferred to stay, told “Al-Masdar Online” website.

The students added that the Chinese authorities are making progress in reducing the spread of the virus and the number of infections is constantly declining.

The evacuation of Yemeni students was supposed to take place at dawn last Sunday, but was suddenly postponed, after the Yemeni embassy – which is affiliated with Hadi’s government – in China informed the students on Friday of being present at the airport.

Information indicates that about 178 Yemeni students and their families reside in Wuhan, the epicenter of the spread of the Corona virus, while 2,300 Yemeni students are still in China, out of 5,000 students and their families.
