Ministry of Health: Saudi-led aggression caused the greatest human tragedy for the Yemeni children
Yemen’s Public Health and Population Ministry held the US-Saudi aggression coalition responsible for the human tragedy faced by Yemeni children that is considered the largest in the world.
The ministry stated yesterday on the occasion of International Children’s Day that the warplanes of the US-Saudi led-coalition killed 2,643 children and injured 4,205, noting that this is an evidence of the criminality and malice of the enemy.
It added that the suffocating siege on Yemen imposed by the US-Saudi aggression coalition kills hundreds of thousands of children and millions of them waiting for the same fate.
The number of children under five years affected by malnutrition are nearly 2 million, including 400 thousand in critical condition, and 12 thousand passed away, the ministry pointed out.
The Ministry of Health held the US-Saudi aggression coalition the legal, humanitarian and moral responsibility, calling on the whole world to take a serious attitude to stop the aggression and lift the imposed blockade.
It also called on the United Nations and UNICEF to reconsider the inclusion of the US-Saudi aggression coalition in the blacklist of child killers, and the countries of the free world to take serious action to lift this tragedy of Yemen generally and children in particularly.
The statement reads as follows:
While the children of the whole world today are celebrating their International Day and injoying their well-being in health, education, security, livelihood and stability, Yemeni children are living the worst humanitarian catastrophe on earth caused by the US-Saudi aggression coalition and its imposed siege for nearly 6 years, where it is still continuing in committing crime against them in front of the silence international community, the the United Nations and its children’s organization called “UNICEF”.
A tragic situation that the children of Yemen have lived through 2060 days ago, as a result of which hundreds of thousands of children fell in the clutches of death, and millions of them await the same fate as a result of the direct bombing of the US-Saudi aggression’s warplanes and the suffocating siege imposed on them.
The ministry recorded that 6,848 children were victims of direct bombing by the coalition’s aircrafts, including 2,643 killed and 4,205 wounded, where their homes, schools, hospitals, wedding and funeral halls were targeted, and the biggest crime against them was targeting Dhahyan school bus, which was crowded with children while their summer trip. Hundreds of those who survived death were partially or completely obstructed, and would live with this disability all thier life.
World Childhood Day comes in 2020 and the suffocating siege on Yemen kills hundreds of thousands of children and there are millions of them waiting for the same fate, as the number of children under five years affected by malnutrition reached about 2 million children out of 5.5 million children, including 400000 children suffer from severe acute malnutrition, as well as there are about 12000 children (one month – 15 years) who died during the period of aggression by cholera diseases and diarrhea. Also there are about 30000 children suffer from various chronic diseases and have been prevented from travelling for treatment abroad since the US-Saudi coalition closed Sana’a International Airport since August 2016 up today, where dozens of them die silently every day, and epidemics such as diphtheria, measles, malaria, dengue and various respiratory diseases that have increased in severity as a result of the practices of the aggression coalition kill hundreds of Yemeni children.
Thousands of children with cancerous diseases, which were the weapons of aggression causing their injury, are unable to receive the appropriate treatment for them because of the blockade, which prevented the entry of devices and medicines of their own, and other health conditions and many numbers that explain how the children of Yemen lived and live in front of the silence of UN and whole world .
The Ministry of Health and on the International Day of Childhood hold the US-Saudi coalition legal, humanitarian and moral responsibility, and call on the whole world to take a serious attitude to stop this aggression and lift the blockade so that the children of Yemen can secure health, educational and humanitarian care similar to all the children of the world. Otherwise, their next day will come in 2021, and their situation has worsened despite it. The worst situation they are living in today.
We also call on the United Nations and UNICEF, which are the sponsors of children, to reconsider the inclusion of the US-Saudi aggression alliance in the blacklist of child killers after it removed it last June, where it is a great disappointment to the souls of the children who were killed and a shame on their forehead that will only be erased by taking appropriate measures away from attention to the tragic childhood numbers, which has long been published by these organizations without referring to the coalition’s criminal practices towards them of aggression and siege.
Finally, we call on the countries of the free world to take serious action to lift this tragedy from Yemen in general and on childhood in particular, and to raise the level of support to alleviate this tragedy and the permanent and continuous demand for the trial and accountability of the war criminals who lead this coalition before international courts.
Issued by the Ministry of Public Health and Population on the International Children’s Day, November 20, 2020.
