Oil Minister discusses with Resident Representative of UNDP piracy against the oil vessels

Minister of Oil and Minerals, Ahmed Abdullah Daress, on Tuesday met in Sana’a with Resident Representative of UNDP in Yemen, Auke Lootsma, according to Saba.

They discussed the difficulties with regard to the humanitarian aspect and the measures required from the United Nations to pressure the Saudi-led aggression coalition countries to release the detained fuel ships and to stop piracy against the oil vessels in the future.

The meeting stressed the highest importance of the UN role in this regard in order to contribute to meeting the needs of service sectors such as health, transportation, water and electricity from oil derivatives.

The Oil Minister confirmed that the continued detention of fuel ships incurred heavy financial penalties on Yemen, which addes more burdens on the Yemeni people.

Regarding the floating oil tank (Safer ship), Daress explained that it had been agreed with the United Nations to start the maintenance work for the tank on February 15.

For his part, the UN official confirmed the readiness to cooperate in this aspect and to address the difficulties so as to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
