Israeli occupation arrests 3 Palestinian electoral candidates in al-Quds

The Israeli occupation forces on Saturday arrested three candidates for the legislative council elections in al-Quds and prevented a press conference for candidates from national factions.

Two of the candidates are on the list of the Fatah party led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and the third is on the list of the Palestinian Democratic Union, according to WAFA News Agency.

The agency said that a press conference was scheduled for al-Quds candidates to announce their position on holding elections and the mechanisms for the participation of the citizens.

Israeli intelligence had surrounded the St. George’s Hotel, where the press conference was scheduled to take place, before the event, checked the identities of passers-by and banned the conference, the agency said.

The candidates on the lists of national action factions expressed their position that al-Quds belong to the Arabs and its sovereignty is Palestinian and there are no elections without al-Quds.

After being prevented from holding their press conference, the candidates and a number of cadres and activists protested, raising the Palestinian flag in a message of survival and a response to and countering the exclusionary occupation policies.
