Two Arrested after Macron Slapped in Face during Crowd Walkabout

Two people were arrested after French President Emmanuel Macron was slapped in the face by a man during a walkabout session with a crowd in southeastern France.
Leading French media outlets, BFM TV and RMC released a video on Tuesday, showing a man in a green T-Shirt deliver a slap to Macron’s face in front of a crowd standing behind metal barriers.

Macron’s security team rushed in to take the man away from the president.

The man could also be heard yelling “Montjoie Saint Denis,” the battle cry of the French army when the country was still a monarchy.

Macron was visiting restaurateurs and students in the Drome region to talk about returning to normal life following the COVID-19 pandemic when the incident took place.

This is not the first time Macron was attacked by the French people.

Previously in 2016, Macron, then the economy minister, was pelted with eggs by hard-left trade unionists during a strike against labor reforms.

In another incident in 2018, anti-government “yellow vest” protesters heckled and booed Macron in a scene that left the president shaken and unnerved.
