Education Minister meets UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen

The Minister of Education, Yahya Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi, discussed on Sunday with the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs “OCHA” in Yemen, William David Grisley, the cooperation relations between Yemen and the coordination in the education sector.

The meeting, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Education Qassem Al-Hamran, reviewed the difficulties facing the conduct of public education in light of the continued aggression and siege.

In the meeting, the minister and his deputy reviewed the most prominent obstacles to the educational process in Yemen, in light of the direct and systematic aggression targeting the components of the educational process, especially the suspension of teachers’ salaries, the printing of the curriculum, and then the infrastructure.

The officials pointed to the importance of concerted efforts and joint coordination to work on providing urgent alternatives to stopping teachers’ salaries.

For his part, Gressly stressed the keenness to coordinate efforts to improve work mechanisms and support the education sector.

Gressly pointed out that he raised the problem of salary suspensions at last month’s meeting in Europe, which included the supporting countries, in addition to raising the same issue at the meeting of United Nations organizations.
