Security Council to hold session on Yemen

The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a session on Yemen on Monday, without the participation of the new UN envoy to Yemen, “Hans Grundberg”.

According to informed sources, Khaled Mohamed Khiari of Tunisia, the Assistant Secretary-General for Middle East, Asia and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, will brief the Security Council on political developments in Yemen on behalf of the Office of the UN Envoy for Yemen.

Grundberg will officially assume his duties on September 5,2021, and he will give a first briefing on developments in Yemen in the same month.

On Monday, the former UN envoy, Martin Griffiths, will give his first briefing on the Yemeni issue as Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, after assuming the duties of his office, succeeding his compatriot, Mark Lowcock.
