Indications of an upcoming escalation with US-Saudi reluctance as armistice ends today
President Al-Mashat meets the Omani delegation to discuss the truce files and its humanitarian benefits, and confirms the following:
- Any armistice must be accompanied by tangible economic and humanitarian improvement, starting with the complete and immediate opening of the airport and seaport.
- Paying salaries to all employees and retirees is a requirement that does not need to be waived by any party
A day after the arrival of the Omani delegation to the capital, Sanaa, accompanied by the head of the national delegation, Mohammed Abdulsalam, developments confirm that Sanaa is still sticking to its position regarding the extension of the armistice, in the absence of an official response from the United Nations and the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition, although less than 24 hours remain until the end of the four-month truce without achieving the required level in alleviating the human suffering of the Yemeni people.
In the midst of the developments, President Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat met yesterday, Monday, in the capital, Sana’a, with the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman, to discuss issues related to the armistice and the proposals put forward by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hans Grundberg, to the national delegation, as well as proposals related to addressing humanitarian and economic issues.
During the meeting, President Al-Mashat welcomed the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman, praising the continuous positive efforts of the Sultanate in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and supporting efforts to establish peace in Yemen, stressing that these efforts are appreciated by the Yemeni leadership and the people.
President Al-Mashat reiterated the Republic of Yemen’s keenness to achieve a just peace that would achieve the right of the Yemeni people to sovereignty and independence, noting the need for any truce to be accompanied by a tangible improvement of the economic and humanitarian situation that can be touched by the Yemeni people, including the payment of the salaries of all state employees and the pensions of retirees, in a sign confirming that Sanaa insists on implementing humanitarian demands, which is the only way towards achieving a truce aimed at a just and honorable peace that guarantees the removal of the suffering of the Yemeni people, according to the latter.
Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat pointed out that the demands of the Yemeni people represented in stopping the aggression and lifting the siege on Yemen, starting with the total and immediate opening of Sana’a International Airport and the port of Hodeidah, in addition to the payment of the salaries of all employees of the Republic of Yemen from oil and gas revenues. These demands do not involve any disability or call for a concession from the other side, stressing that the implementation of these steps will create an atmosphere supportive of peace and will contribute significantly to alleviating the suffering of citizens as a result of the aggression and siege.
With this just affirmation, the coalition of aggression and the United Nations, if the humanitarian demands of Sanaa are rejected, will become clear to everyone that they are one party lined up to preserve human suffering, as a way of pressure and continuing their illegal war, which Sanaa rejects. Many possibilities would be more open to an upcoming Saudi escalation and a bulky Yemeni response that might accelerate the rest of the period of aggression and siege on Yemen that has been nearly going on for 8 years, after it was launched and announced from Washington.
In the meeting, President Mahdi Al-Mashat indicated that Sanaa is ready for peace and is also ready to address any upcoming escalation, which makes the choice in the hands of the coalition of aggression and its international sponsors, while Al-Mashat preferred that the next path be a peace path that guarantees the legitimate rights of the people, as well as guarantees the legitimate interests for the countries of the region. The President of the Supreme Political Council stressed the importance of the US-led coalition’s involvement in supportive measures to build confidence and the requirements of peace, in a sign that confirms the superiority of the desire for peace in Sana’a more than others. Al-Mashat considered that the aggressive coalition and its tools and sponsors adhering to the siege is a war crime and a crime against humanity.
It is noteworthy that Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Al-Ezzi attended the meeting of President Al-Mashat with the Omani delegation, while he confirmed in a tweet yesterday afternoon, that “Sana’a’s demands are legal, humanitarian and not impossible and do not require any concessions from anyone and do not affect the rights of any country,” which makes Sana’a adheres more than ever to these demands, based on the clear insistence of the coalition of aggression to neglect these demands, which indicates them using this method after being certain of the failure of its military operations in Yemen.
While Al-Ezzi affirmed that the demands are legitimate, he asked, “What will be the consequences of opening the airport, for example, or stopping the arbitrary detention of fuel ships?”, to put the coalition of aggression and the United Nations in front of an inevitable answer.
“Our demands seem to support peace, while their positions, unfortunately, adhere to the siege and violations only,” Al-Ezzi added, stressing that “this is in fact a criminal behavior that obstructs peace.”
Al-Ezzi pointed out that “the behavior of the coalition prolongs the war and violates rights and all human values,” confirming that the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition’s rejection of Sana’a’s demands is a spark for an upcoming broad escalation that the countries of aggression have prepared for after exploiting the truce and the restraint that Sana’a demonstrated. However, indications confirm that Sanaa will not pass what the “coalition” has implicated, especially with the escalation of the military capabilities that it has shown during the past four months.
At the end of his tweets, Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Al-Ezzi asked: “Why do they adhere to the seizure of ships and by what right do they deprive the Yemeni citizen from travel without restrictions and from his oil and gas wealth?” He also stressed the great readiness for Sana’a, peace or war, by saying: “They are clearly imposing war on us, so don’t blame us, we will fight with our Yemeni people; For the sake of peace and in defense of its legitimate rights,” indicating that the next stage will witness major qualitative operations that will be carried out by the Yemeni armed forces.
Although the current situation shows that several possibilities could happen in the next stage, it is now between only two options: either the United Nations, the coalition of aggression and their international sponsors will respond to the Yemeni demands and start creating threads for peace, or the American-Saudi bet on investing the suffering of the Yemenis will lead to an explosion. A military explosion full of all forms of escalation, and on the other hand, it is full of Yemeni strategic deterrence, which brings everyone to what the president promised at the beginning of the year that he will make the world hear the screams of the Yemeni people if they turn deaf and blind to the suffering of the people of Yemen as a result of the siege and aggression.
