The Ministry of Fisheries condemned the continued violations and kidnappings against Yemeni fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters by Eritrean forces.

The ministry said in a statement that the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea has recorded more than seven thousand kidnapping crimes against Yemeni fishermen in the Yemeni territorial waters and the Red Sea since the start of the aggression against Yemen in 2015.

The ministry revealed that 1,632 Yemeni fishermen had been kidnapped during the past two years.

It pointed out that the kidnappers plunder the boats of the kidnapped fishermen, in addition to exposing them to various types of abuse and torture, and they are detained without release for long periods in violation of international norms and conventions, and this represents a flagrant violation of human rights.

The ministry affirmed that such actions are a flagrant and arbitrary violation of human rights, and target the elements of security in the Red Sea and prevent fishermen from earning their livelihood in Yemeni territorial waters.
