On Thursday, the island of Socotra, which is under occupation, witnessed protests against the blatant UAE interference in the island.

Hundreds of people from the city of Hadiboh went out in protest vigils, denouncing the UAE’s control of the consumer market on the island, and its imaginative rise in the prices of foodstuffs and basic commodities.

A joint statement issued by the protests that swept across the city’s various neighborhoods said that the “Emirati Khalifa Foundation” sells humanitarian aid provided by the United Nations and organizations, at exorbitant prices instead of providing it for free.

The statement indicated that the corporation is involved in suspicious intelligence work, as it opened 4 stations for oil derivatives, and 4 new commercial malls for selling foodstuffs, stressing that it controls the prices of commodities, taking advantage of the conditions of citizens.

The protests come, in light of the UAE’s efforts to expand its control over the island, which enjoys its strategic and vital location, amid accusations of its forces stealing the island’s resources and carrying out intelligence work for the benefit of the Israeli entity.
