A United Nations panel of experts said on Tuesday that the threat of famine in the Gaza Strip has renewed after the Israeli enemy’s military operation in city of Rafah, south of Gaza, disrupted the delivery of aid, leaving more than half a million Palestinians on the brink of starvation.

Palestinians across the Gaza Strip face a “potential risk of famine” in the coming months according to the latest analysis by the Integrated Interim Classification of Food Security.

“The risk of famine remains high as long as the conflict continues and humanitarian access remains restricted,” the report said.

The report also indicated how more than half of the families in the Gaza Strip exchanged clothes for money to buy food, and a third resorted to selling garbage from the streets, while more than 20 percent of the people surveyed “spent entire days and nights without eating.”

A previous report by United Nations experts expected that famine would spread in areas of northern Gaza by last May.

The committee said, “The significant increase in aid deliveries during the months of March and April temporarily tempered expectations.”

The report added, “However, the situation has deteriorated again since then, after the main crossing for delivering aid during this conflict was closed during the Israeli attack, which led to the complete disruption of the Rafah crossing.”

The expert report stressed that “the entire population of Gaza has reached emergency levels of hunger, with more than 500,000 people on the brink of famine.”
