The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, condemned today, Tuesday, the ongoing Israeli aggression for more than 6 days in the occupied West Bank, and stressed that the “violence and destruction” accompanying it “torn apart” the city of Jenin.
Lazzarini said in a post on “X” platform: “Meanwhile in the West Bank, for more than 6 days, Jenin has been torn apart by violence and destruction, causing loss of life and injuries, including among civilians, and severe damage to infrastructure.”
He added, “For more than 150 hours, the residents have been exposed to an Israeli military operation and armed clashes.”
Lazzarini explained that “the residents have limited access to food, water and medicine” due to the current situation.
He pointed out that “UNRWA is working with humanitarian and local partners to provide urgently needed assistance.”
He called for “immediate protection for civilians throughout the West Bank, including in the north.”
He called on the Israeli “army” to “maintain the protection of civilians and provide access to assistance (which the agency is trying to provide to them).”
At dawn on August 28, the Israeli “army” launched a “military operation” in the northern occupied West Bank, the largest since 2002, as large forces stormed the cities of Jenin and Tulkarm, their camps, and Far’a camp near Tubas, before withdrawing at dawn on Thursday from the Far’a camp, and on the evening of the same day from Tulkarm, before returning to storm it on Monday.
As for Jenin, operations are still ongoing for the seventh day, as the Israeli army has sent armored forces reinforced by the air force to the city.
