More than 50 countries have called on the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly to take immediate steps to stop the sale or transfer of weapons to the Israeli enemy entity, saying that there are reasonable grounds to suspect that military materials will be used in the war waged by the enemy on the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

In a letter addressed to the two UN bodies and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which was obtained late Monday, these countries, led by Turkey, accuse the Israeli enemy of continuously violating international laws in Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian territories as well as in Lebanon and the rest of the Middle East countries.

The letter stated: “The staggering toll of civilian casualties, most of whom are children and women, due to the ongoing violations of international law by (Israel), the occupying power, for more than a year now, is intolerable and unacceptable.”

The letter added: “We must act urgently to stop the severe humanitarian suffering and regional instability that threatens to erupt into a full-scale war in the region.”

The letter calls on the Security Council to “declare an immediate ceasefire to avert this catastrophe” and take measures to implement previous resolutions to protect civilians, ensure accountability, and issue “a clear demand to stop the transfer of weapons to (Israel).”

Turkish diplomatic sources reported earlier that Ankara had launched an initiative within the United Nations to stop the sale of weapons and ammunition to “Israel.”

The initiative was signed by 52 countries, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The initiative aims to prevent “Israel’s” violations of international law, including international humanitarian law and human rights law, in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip, by stopping the sale of weapons and ammunition to Israel.

The letter in question was delivered to Guterres in early November, the United Kingdom, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council during November, and the President of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Young.

Türkiye believes that it is the international community’s legal and moral duty to immediately stop the supply and shipment of weapons and ammunition to “Israel” to confront Israel’s war policy in the region, especially in Gaza.

The countries that signed the initiative include Palestine, Bahrain, Bangladesh, the UAE, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Djibouti, China, Indonesia, Morocco, Gambia, South Africa, Iraq, Iran, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, the Union of the Comoros, Kuwait, Cuba, Libya, Lebanon, the Maldives, Malaysia, Mexico, Egypt, Mauritania, Namibia, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Saint Vincent, the Grenadines, Sao Tome , Principe, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.
