Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza: UN and Government Statements Warn of Escalating Catastrophe
UN Official Describes Gaza as the Most Dangerous Place for Aid Delivery
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs has described Gaza as the most perilous location for providing humanitarian aid. He revealed that Zionist authorities continue to obstruct meaningful access for humanitarian workers, rejecting over 100 requests to reach northern Gaza since October 6.
He noted that 2023 witnessed the highest recorded number of humanitarian workers killed in Gaza within a single year. As a result, delivering even a fraction of the necessary aid has become nearly impossible amidst overwhelming humanitarian needs.
The official highlighted that, despite the International Court of Justice issuing temporary orders nearly a year ago, issuing its first temporary orders on preventing acts of genocide in Gaza. Yet, the ongoing violence has made safety unattainable for civilians, turning schools, hospitals, and vital infrastructure into ruins.
The ongoing Israeli blockade on northern Gaza for over two months has pushed the region to the brink of famine, while overcrowding in southern Gaza creates dire living conditions as winter approaches. He emphasized that airstrikes continue across Gaza, even targeting areas where Israeli forces instructed civilians to relocate, causing destruction, displacement, and death.
Continued Violence Despite UN Statements
Despite near-daily statements from the UN and related institutions, Israel continues its genocide, with full backing from Western governments, particularly the United States. These actions proceed without even nominal international pressure, underscoring Western support for Israel’s expansionist ambitions.
The UN official noted that instead of implementing arrest warrants issued by the International Court of Justice for alleged war crimes, efforts have shifted towards penalizing the court’s members for their insistence on these warrants. This underscores the deep influence of Zionist lobbying on international legal and human rights institutions.
Government Media Office in Gaza: Deliberate Starvation Amid Systematic Violence
The Government Media Office in Gaza released a statement on Tuesday stating that the Israeli entity deliberately targets humanitarian aid workers while facilitating the looting of aid supplies as part of a systematic plan to starve the population.
The office reported that the Israeli enemy has killed over 728 humanitarian aid and security personnel since October 7, 2023. They condemned this as a deliberate effort to block aid from reaching civilians and displace the population.
The statement also highlighted several incidents, including the bombing of vehicles accompanying aid and attacks on personnel securing food shipments, such as an airstrike on a car carrying flour in Deir al-Balah, killing four security personnel. Another incident involved the targeting of aid security personnel, resulting in five deaths.
The government’s office stated that Israel coordinates with criminal networks to loot humanitarian convoys. This systematic looting has forced international agencies, such as UNRWA, to suspend aid deliveries due to the lack of safety.
UN and Relief Agencies Face Growing Challenges
UN organizations and other relief agencies have struggled to deliver aid under the current conditions. The World Food Programme recently sent a convoy of 66 trucks into Gaza, but only 43 reached their destination due to Israeli airstrikes and looting by armed groups.
This grim situation has exacerbated hunger and suffering across Gaza, particularly in the north, where the blockade intensifies starvation and displacement efforts. International organizations continue to call for unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, warning of catastrophic consequences if the current restrictions persist.
