Lebanon denies agreement to extend ceasefire

The Lebanese presidency denied, yesterday, Wednesday, the news circulating about the existence of an agreement between Lebanon and Israel to extend the ceasefire beyond Eid al-Fitr, stressing that President Joseph Aoun has repeatedly stressed Lebanon’s insistence on the complete withdrawal of enemy forces within the deadline set on February 18.
The media office of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri also denied the existence of any agreement between him and Hezbollah regarding extending the ceasefire. In contrast, the United States rejected the Israeli enemy’s request to extend the deployment of its forces in Lebanon, stressing its commitment to the final withdrawal date of February 18, according to what the Times of Israel newspaper reported from an American official.
For his part, the commander of the northern region in the enemy army, Uri Gordin, said that the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon “will enter into force,” indicating that the redeployment of forces may begin next week.
Israeli media questioned, on Wednesday, Gordin’s statements regarding “repositioning,” noting that Lebanon rejected any presence of “Israeli” forces in some points
