US, Israel push for sanctions against UN over sexual violence, genocide report
The Trump administration and Israel are moving to sanction the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) after its investigation uncovered damning evidence of Israel’s genocidal atrocities committed against Palestinians in Gaza, Israeli media reported on Friday.
The UN rights body in its latest investigation documented the Israeli forces involvement in systematic rape and sexual violence against Palestinians, including women, men, and children, acts the report classified as genocide.
The regime forces engaged in violent sexual actions as a military strategy in Gaza, the report added.
US officials and Israeli diplomats responded to the UN report by expressing outrage, claiming the findings documented in the report are “false,” “distorted,” and “antisemitic.”
The Israelis and Americans working at the UN are working to pass legislation that would impose economic sanctions and travel bans on UNHRC officials.
The goal is to expand existing US sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to also target the UNHRC.
Israeli officials confirmed they are pressuring the US to enact sanctions against the UNHRC to punish the rights body for exposing Israel’s crimes.
Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon is leading the effort alongside incoming US Ambassador Alice Stapnick, who is set to take office soon.
The plan aims to block key UNHRC officials from entering the US and freeze their assets under new financial restrictions.
In past years, the US and Israel have pulled out of the UNHRC.
Since the Israeli regime launched its genocidal war in October 2023, the Government Media Office in Gaza has increased the number of fatalities in Gaza to more than 61,000, saying that thousands of people missing under the rubble are now presumed dead.
