The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed today, Sunday, that it had obtained four videotapes documenting field executions of unarmed young men from Alawite sect, carried out by security forces in the village of al-Shir in Latakia countryside on March 7.
According to the Observatory, the videotaped documentation supports its previous reports indicating that the massacres on the Syrian coast were “systematic and aimed at genocide,” while some representatives of the current government describe them as “individual transgressions.”
In the details of the videos revealed by the SOHR, the first video shows two young men kneeling on the ground while security forces insult and severely beat them, despite their repeated assertions that they “did not commit any crime.”
In a second video, the camera documents the torture of four civilians—including two elderly men—and forcing one of them to kiss the shoe of a security officer.
The third video reveals the brutal flogging of civilians before their execution.
The fourth video shows the bodies of eight victims, in addition to a young man waiting to be shot, bringing the total number of victims in the fourth clip to nine, all Alawites.
The Syrian Observatory called for “urgent and public trials” for those involved, whose faces were shown in the video.
The Observatory also announced its refusal to refer the case to the “Fact-Finding Committee,” because some of its members participated in justifying previous violations against Kurdish civilians in the Afrin region.
One member of the committee even denied in a television statement that mass massacres had occurred.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also warned that “neglecting to hold perpetrators accountable will encourage the commission of new crimes and massacres,” stressing that the continuation of systematic sectarian violence “threatens civil peace,” particularly in areas inhabited by a majority of Alawite sect.
The Observatory continues to document violations against this Syrian community (Alawite sect) from the moment the former regime fell, through March 6, which it described as “black,” and not to mention the subsequent massacres.
The Observatory had previously reported the deaths of approximately 1,500 people in the massacres on the Syrian coast that occurred in recent days against Alawite sect.
