The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority revealed on Monday that female prisoners in the Israeli Damon Prison are suffering inhumane and extremely difficult detention conditions.
The Authority, citing its lawyer who visited the female prisoners, according to the Palestinian News Agency WAFA, stated that the food is poor in quantity and quality, causing digestive system problems for the female prisoners, and that all of them have lost significant weight.
The Authority added that prisoner Karam Muhammad Musa (53 years old), from the town of Surra in Nablus Governorate, who was arrested on February 25, 2025, was detained in a blood-stained and extremely dirty cell, with no room for prayer, no food, and only a small mattress, which she and another female prisoner alternated on.
Prisoner Karam indicated that the food provided to her upon completion of her interrogation caused constipation and was insufficient for the number of female prisoners in the room.
The Israeli prison administration provides one plate of legumes for eight female prisoners, while the break period is reduced to one hour, which the prisoners use to take a shower.
Prisoner Haneen Muhammad Jaber (44 years old) from Nur Shams camp also lost eight kilograms due to malnutrition during her five months of detention. Jaber was arrested on December 3, 2024, while out on an outing with her children in the park, on charges of sheltering and feeding her son, whom the Israeli authorities claim is “wanted.”
As for prisoner Fidaa Suhail Assaf (49 years old) from the town of Kafr Laqif in Qalqilya Governorate, she has been suffering from leukemia for a year, prior to her arrest. Israeli forces raided her home on February 24, 2025, and arrested her on the pretext of incitement via social media. She was interrogated and transferred to Al-Damon Prison, where a court hearing was scheduled for May 21, 2025.
The Commission noted that her health is stable and that she has been taking the prescribed medications regularly for two weeks. The Commission’s lawyer also visited prisoner Shahd Majed Hassan (23 years old) from the city of Ramallah, who has been detained since March 5, 2025, and was sentenced to four months in administrative detention.
Hassan said, “I was arrested from my home and then transferred to Ofer Prison, then to Beit El, then to Hasharon Prison for one night, and then to Damon.
It was a torturous journey. The treatment was extremely poor. I was kept in handcuffs the entire time and was subjected to insults and humiliation along the way.”
