More than 100 American universities and colleges affirmed their rejection of the interference of the criminal administration of President Donald Trump in higher education affairs on Tuesday, describing it as “unjustified political interference.”

In a joint statement, the Association of American Colleges and Universities announced its rejection of the Trump administration’s use of government funding and taxation as a means of pressure on leading universities.

Among the signatories to the statement were presidents of prestigious universities such as Harvard, Princeton, and Brown, who affirmed their rejection of any political interference that threatens the independence of educational institutions.

The statement indicated that the goal is not to oppose legitimate oversight or necessary reforms, but rather to confront threats to the essence of academic freedom.

The signatories affirmed their support for transparency and financial fairness, but they rejected linking public funding to political positions or using it as a means of extortion.

The statement emphasized the importance of protecting freedom of expression and diversity of opinion on campus, and rejected any attempts at censorship or threats of expulsion or restrictions.

The statement comes in the context of the Trump administration’s escalation of its use of financial cuts and investigations as a means of pressuring universities to suppress pro-Palestinian student activism.

The federal administration has threatened to freeze funding and revoke tax exemptions for several universities, including Harvard University, due to pro-Palestine student protests on campus.
