At least 45 migrants killed when boat capsizes off coast of Libya
At least 45 migrants died off the Libyan coast on Wednesday, when a boat carrying dozens of migrants bound for Europe capsized in the Mediterranean Sea off Libya, the United Nations said.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a joint statement issued On Wednesday that 37 migrants rescued by fishermen and at least 45 others were killed when the engine of a boat they were travelling on went off the coast of the Libyan city of Zuwara.
Thousands have died over the past 10 years on the journey of death from the shores of Libya to Europe.
Libya has become a major route for illegal migration to Europe in recent years.
