Obama Blasts Kushner Over Saying African Americans Have to ’Want to Be Successful’

Former US President Barack Obama has blasted Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, over his recent comments on African Americans.

Campaigning Tuesday for former Vice President Joe Biden in Orlando, Florida, the first Black president also slammed President Donald Trump’s claims that he has done a lot for African Americans’ unemployment.

“He loves to talk about Black unemployment, look how low Black unemployment — well, you know what, unemployment was really high when I came in and we brought that unemployment low and it kept on going low,” Obama said. “And he wants to take credit for it, says he’s the best president for Black folks since Abe Lincoln. Man.”

In an interview with Fox news on Monday Kushner said Trump “can’t want them [African Americans] to be successful more than they want to be successful.”

“Now his advisers are out there saying, including his son-in-law, his son-in-law says, Black folks have to want to be successful, that’s the problem,” stated the Democratic politician. “Who are these folks? What history books do they read?… They don’t read.”

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) also lashed out at the president’s Jewish son-in-law and White House adviser over the comments.

“We cannot afford another four years of a White House that does not take our voices seriously and tells us to be grateful for whatever scraps are leftover from the bargaining table,” DNC spokesperson Brandon Gassaway said in a statement.

Biden has promised that his recovery plan would bring the Black unemployment rate down.
