The Ministry of Fisheries announces the opening of fish farming

The Ministry of Fisheries announced the opening of fish farming, within the framework of the national vision for building the modern Yemeni state.

Abdulaziz bin Habtoor, head of the National Salvation Government, said during a workshop to promote investment in the fish sector: “The fish wealth is a renewable resource and investment by the private sector in light of the state’s preoccupation with confronting aggression is extremely important.”

He pointed out that the Salvation Government is interested in continuing the development process despite the continuing aggression and blockade, pointing out that the Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries are concerned today with finding investment opportunities.

Minister of Fisheries, Muhammad Al-Zubairi, said: “The fish sector is one of the promising sectors for achieving multi-source economic growth and increasing the per capita share.”

He pointed out that fish farming would reach 90% profitable returns within 3 years, and that investment opportunities include all components of fish activity, including fishing, transportation, distribution, and industries related to the fish sector.

The Ministry of Fisheries stated that Yemen has a stockpile of fish that allows catching about 400 thousand tons annually, and ranks fourth in the Arab world after Morocco, Mauritania, and Egypt. The Yemeni waters are also characterized by containing 150 species of marine life that are not found in other countries.

The ministry confirmed that the Republic of Yemen owns 15 sites in the Red and Arab seas suitable for fish farming.
