Biden Plans Quick Reversal of Trump’s Decisions in First Days of Presidency

US President-elect Joe Biden has revealed his plans in his first days in office, reportedly aiming to take executive action to reverse some of the most controversial decisions of his predecessor and to address ongoing crises in the country.

One of Biden’s top aides announced on Saturday that the incoming US president would sign “roughly a dozen” executive orders within hours of being sworn in, and address such critical issues as the pandemic, the economy, climate change and racial injustice in America.

“In his first ten days in office, President-elect Biden will take decisive action to address these four crises, prevent other urgent and irreversible harms, and restore America’s place in the world,” said incoming chief of staff Ron Klain, in a memo to senior staff.

“President-elect Biden will take action — not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration — but also to start moving our country forward,” he added.

Outlining the plan, Klain said the Democratic president would rescind the travel ban on several majority-Muslim countries, rejoin the Paris climate accord, extend limits on student loan payments and evictions instituted during the pandemic and issue a mask mandate on federal properties and for interstate travel.

“These actions will change the course of COVID-19, combat climate change, promote racial equity and support other underserved communities, and rebuild our economy in ways that strengthen the backbone of this country: the working men and women who built our nation,” he wrote in the memo.

The Klain memo also made clear that Biden’s agenda would require “robust congressional action,” a prospect that improved after Democrats took control of the Senate earlier this month.
