Turkey records highest daily infections of COVID-19 since pandemic began

Turkish health authorities on Friday reported 42,308 new infections with the new coronavirus COVID-19, the highest daily infection toll since the outbreak began.

The data showed that the total number of recorded infections exceeded 3.4 million.

Health authorities recorded 179 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 31,892.

Covid-19 infections have escalated since the government eased measures to curb the spread of the epidemic in early March.

On Monday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced new measures, including a full weekend lockdown across the country during Ramadan, which begins April 13th.
