Zionist occupation authorities seek to demolish 17 Palestinian homes south of Al-Quds
The deadline set by the occupation authorities to demolish 17 homes in the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Silwan, south of Al-Quds, expires on Sunday.
The occupation had notified the demolition of 98 homes in Silwan, of which 17 were immediately demolished before the end of the month, according to the “Kaminitz” law, which prevents the possibility of appealing the decision in the courts or freezing it.
The targeted homes belong to the families of: Abu Diab, Hamdan, Jalajel, Rajabi, Qwaider, Badran, Awda, Shafi’, Rajab, Abd al-Rahman, and Bashir.
At a distance of 300 meters from the southern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the Al-Bustan neighborhood, which extends over an area of 70 dunums, and is home to 1,550 people.
The occupation claims that the neighborhood represents “a cultural and historical heritage of the Jewish people,” so it worked to Judaize its name and turn it into “King David’s Garden.” The occupation seeks to demolish the entire neighborhood, in preparation for the establishment of a “Biblical National Park.” Its story dates back to 2005, when the occupation municipality issued a decision to demolish it, and began distributing demolition orders to its residents, under the pretext of building without a permit, even though its lands are privately owned by Palestinians and an Islamic endowment.
Last March, the Israeli municipality rejected the neighborhood’s engineering plans, as well as freezing demolition decisions.
