FM discusses with Resident Representative of WFP implications of raising the customs dollar
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hisham Sharaf discussed on Saturday with Resident Representative of the World Food Program Laurent Bukera the activities of the program since the beginning of 2021.
At the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs received the nomination papers of the new resident representative of the program, and the minister promised to respond to the nomination in the near future.
Sharaf touched on the repercussions of the hotel government’s decision to raise the price of the customs dollar by 100 percent, which will double the costs of the import process, including foodstuffs whose prices are constantly rising.
He pointed to the repercussions of printing and pumping counterfeit currency, which increases the burdens and suffering that the citizen bears due to the actions of the outgoing government and outgoing president.
The minister affirmed the readiness of the Hodeida port to receive ships loaded with commercial and food materials and containers, pointing to the facilities provided by the Salvation Government to all merchants and businessmen to import through Hodeida.
Minister Sharaf called on the WFP to put pressure on the aggression to prevent the obstruction of ships from reaching the port of Hodeida, reminding the international community that the war of starvation and the prevention of oil derivatives and domestic gas is still continuing, stressing that these practices impede reaching peace arrangements.
For his part, the resident representative of the Food Program said that the WFP attributes the utmost importance to the humanitarian situation in Yemen and demands easy access to food and humanitarian supplies without delay or obstruction.
