Sudan protests death toll rises to 15
The death toll of protests in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on Wednesday has risen to 15, in addition to many injured, as a result of crackdown on protesters by forces loyal to army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
“28-Year- old Abu Bakar Salah Othman, was killed after he got shot in the chest and abdomen, bringing the number of martyrs to 15,” the Central Committee of Sudan’s Doctors said in a statement.
Security authorities have not commented on the death toll, but Sudan National Television said Sudanese police were investigating the deaths of five people during the November 13th demonstrations, although no reports of such incidents were reported to Khartoum state police stations.
On Wednesday morning, Sudanese security authorities closed a number of roads leading to the capital Khartoum to prevent expected demonstrations against the decisions of the Sudanese army commander-in-chief, The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, which he issued on October 25th.
Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General expressed concern over the news of those killed in the protests, stressing the need to allow citizens to demonstrate freely.
“The news of those killed in the protests in Sudan is very disturbing and citizens should be allowed to demonstrate freely,” Dujarric said Wednesday evening.
