Center for Mine Action announces the suspension of its activities as a result of UNDP actions
The Executive Center for Mine Action renewed the call for the Humanitarian Coordinator to distance the center’s humanitarian work from the political agenda, and called for concerted efforts to protect civilians from the danger of mines and cluster bombs.
The center stated in a statement that it receives reports on a daily basis from citizens in various governorates and districts contaminated with mines, cluster bombs and remnants of war, the latest of which was last Thursday in Durayhimi and Jarrahi districts in Hodeida governorate, which caused the death of a child and the injury of three others.
The Center revealed that more than 275 civilians have been killed in Hodeida since the beginning of 2022 due to the remnants of the US-Saudi aggression, and the expansion of the areas contaminated with landmines and cluster bombs.
The demining program revealed that the UN Development Program has reduced the assistance provided to the program, and the UN has suspended fuel allocations without providing solutions to continue the program’s humanitarian activities.
The center holds the US-Saudi aggression responsible for preventing it from importing mine and bomb detectors, and for causing civilian casualties as a result of the remaining areas contaminated with mines and cluster bombs.
The US-Saudi aggression continues to target neighborhoods and populated areas and destroy the infrastructure and capabilities of the country, in light of a suspicious international silence.
