Amman discussions: The enemy is evading “opening the roads” and is looking for military gains!

The coalition of aggression and its mercenaries showed intransigence in Amman’s discussions regarding talks about opening roads in accordance with the armistice agreement, as they rejected the initiatives presented by the national team to start alleviating the suffering of citizens in the governorates of Taiz, Marib, Al Dhale’ and Al Bayda. They also adhered to narrow demands involving military objectives that violate the agreement and threatened to withdraw from the discussions. Thus, this is a clear indication of the enemy’s lack of seriousness in addressing the humanitarian file, and its continued insistence on using the agreement as a cover and a pretext for pressure, blackmail and inciting public opinion.

Mercenary divisions are impacting the discussions

The head of the National Military Committee in the Amman discussions, Major General Yahya Abdullah Al-Razami, said Thursday: “Sanaa has presented important initiatives that contribute to alleviating all that causes human suffering to the people of Yemen in general and the people of Taiz in particular.”

The armistice agreement stipulates the opening of closed roads in Taiz and the rest of the governorates, but the coalition of aggression is trying to circumvent this section of the agreement by highlighting certain areas for clear military purposes.

Regarding the initiatives presented by the national side, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Salvation Government, Hussein Al-Ezzi, said that they included an initiative to open two important roads in Taiz Governorate, in addition to opening roads in other governorates, according to the agreement.

“Although the discussion is taking place in a friendly atmosphere dominated by the concern to alleviate the general suffering, the representatives of the other party are still hesitant in practical terms,” Al-Ezzi said, adding: “This hesitation is in fact due to the nature of the complexities and the variations of the various factions in the composition of the other party, especially since their representatives are apparently not sufficiently empowered to decide what has been proposed.”

Over the past years, mercenaries’ lack of authority and decision-making has always represented a major obstacle to all humanitarian and political consultations and negotiations. This is because all the proposals on the table quickly run into a wall of negativity created by the division and disintegration of the representatives of the mercenaries, which blocks the way for any positive practical outcomes.

Also in this context, the head of the Sana’a Military Committee said: “The other side suffers from dispersion, lack of leadership unity, and lack of decision-making, and these are some of the reasons that led to its delay in attending to participate and its reluctance to not seize the opportunity and accept the first fair and just ideas to open roads in Taiz, Marib, Al Dhale’e, and Al-Bayda.”

The mercenary team was three days late before arriving in Amman to discuss opening roads, which was an early indication that there were no real intentions to come up with solutions in this file.

Suspicious agendas that violate the agreement

It’s not only the mercenaries’ dispersion and lack of decision-making that is hindering Amman’s consultations, as Sana’a revealed that the enemy team has a special agenda that includes demands that contradict the agreement. Major General AlRazami noted that the other side does not want to negotiate about all the closed roads because of the war, and only wants to speak about certain roads in the country, which goes against the agreement, for it says that states the creation of committees to open the roads in Taiz and other governorates.

Subsequently, the enemy media published statements by the mercenary team threatening to withdraw from the discussions if Sanaa did not agree to its demands, which revolve around the army and committees – unilaterally – opening a road in certain areas in Taiz governorate only, which implies a clear desire to achieve planned military gains at the expense of the armistice agreement.

This position represents a clear extension of the declared tendency by the coalition of aggression to circumvent the agreement and content of the armistice agreement with regard to opening roads, as the official statements of the enemy focused weeks ago on using the propaganda of the “siege of Taiz” as an excuse to forget about the opening of the other closed roads in different governorates”. This way, they are creating propaganda pressure against Sanaa to blackmail it, as well as to justify the closure of Sanaa airport and the port of Hodeidah.

This is not the first time that the coalition of aggression and its mercenaries use the propaganda of the “siege of Taiz” as a pretext for intransigence, as the negative exploitation of the suffering of the people of the province has become a major method taken by the enemy to mislead public opinion and try to distort Sana’a, even though all the facts regarding Taiz governorate condemn the countries of aggression and mercenaries. The most prominent of these facts is that they have rejected many of the initiatives offered by Sana’a to open the roads, end the fighting in the governorate and neutralize them, which means that they adhere to closing the roads there for the continued use and trade in them, which is clearly reflected in their position in the Amman discussions.

A member of the national delegation, Abdul-Malik Al-Ajri, confirms, in this context, that “the issue of opening roads was put in the context of justifying the aggression’s blockade of ports and airports and covering it up,” noting that “the measures in Taiz were imposed by military necessities to preserve the lives of citizens. As for the closure of ports and airports, it is without justification.”

Despite the escalating negative indicators on the part of the enemy, Sanaa is still striving to achieve progress in this file of opening roads in Taiz and in the rest of the governorates to alleviate the suffering of the citizens, as Major General Al-Razami confirmed that “the National Committee is still waiting for progress in the initial steps and the acceptance of the other party to open the roads at this stage first, to prove that they really want to alleviate the suffering of the people of Taiz governorate and the rest of the Yemeni governorates.”

“We hope that the other side and those behind them realize the humanitarian responsibility towards our Yemeni people, who are suffering from the siege and unjust aggression and the resulting catastrophic effects,” he added.

The intransigence of the enemy with regard to opening roads would represent an additional obstacle to the possibility of extending or renewing the truce, especially since Sanaa stresses the need to implement the terms of the agreement in the required manner first, and then discuss the extension of the armistice, which will be based on improving humanitarian conditions. However, this does not look like this is the position of the aggressive coalition and its mercenaries in the Amman discussions, in addition to its refusal to compensate for the delayed humanitarian benefits included in the agreement, especially the flights that it prevented for a month and a half from the beginning of the ceasefire, as well as the fuel ships that were detained and prevented from reaching the port of Hodeidah. Also, the constant military breaches represent a major obstacle.
