Despite the ban on arms exports, a German company supplies Saudi Arabia with advanced weapons
An investigation conducted by a German magazine revealed that Saudi Arabia was able to obtain new weapons through a German company. According to an investigation prepared by Der Spiegel magazine, the matter concerns the radars installed in the border area with Yemen, in addition to various weapons and military vehicles.
The documents revealed that the German federal government owns about a quarter of the company that exported weapons, noting that the matter began through contacts made between the Saudi government and the German “Hensoldt” company, where a number of deals were monitored between it and Riyadh, some of which were conducted secretly.
The documents, obtained by the magazine, talk about providing Saudi Arabia with vehicles for special forces, as well as surveillance technology and radars for minesweepers and border guards.
And it indicated that the German company offered the Saudi intelligence service a system to counter drones.
The magazine wondered how a German company could be so active in its trade with Riyadh, despite the imposition of an export ban in the country since 2018 due to the use of German weapons by Saudi Arabia in the aggression against Yemen.
