Seizing illegal fishing equipment off Al-Mateena coast in Hodeida province
Members of the Coast Guard and the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea, off the coast of Al-Mateena area in Tuhaita, Hodeida province, seized violating fishing equipment, on board a Jalba-type boat coming from the areas controlled by the mercenaries of aggression.
And the deputy head of the General Authority for Fisheries, Muhammad Al-Omeisy, considered the seized fishing equipment a new economic war against the Yemeni people by destroying their fish wealth and eliminating the marine environment.
He appreciated the role of the Coast Guard affiliates in the liberated areas of the directorates for cooperation and support of the authority in its endeavors to thwart all plots targeting fisheries and threatening the future of generations in Yemen.
As explained by the Director of Maritime Control in the authority, Muhammad Abdul Jalil, and the head of the inspection department, Abdul Qadir Al-Obaidi, stated that the seized equipment is represented in various types of string fishing nets that are internationally prohibited for use in the fishing process, due to their danger in depleting and displacing marine life and destroying coral reefs in the sea.
They pointed out that all the equipment was seized after confirming that it is of the prohibited types, and it was found that it does not carry any official papers that allow its entry from the approved outlets, and that it is among the tools of the economic war targeting Yemen.
For his part, Director of the Quality Department at the Authority, Muhammad Al-Sharabi, called on all fishermen to be aware not to deal with violating string fishing equipment and to cooperate with the Authority to preserve fish wealth, which is the main source of livelihood for them and their generations.
