Parliament asks government to tighten control over food pricing
The Parliament, in its Saturday session, headed by House Speaker Yahya Ali Al-Ra’i, stressed the importance of the government’s commitment to implementing the House’s recommendations to strengthen control over the prices of food commodities and services.
The parliament members urged the competent parliamentary committee to go to the field to follow up on the commitment of importers, wholesalers, and retailers to implement the price list for foodstuffs, including wheat, flour, oil, rice, sugar, cheese, and other materials included in the reduced food price list.
In the context of their debates, the lawmakers stressed the need to enhance the supervisory role in the markets, to arrest violators, and to intensify field visits with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
