At Least 26 Militants Killed as Russia Bombs Terror Bastions in NW Syria

Dozens of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Hurras al-Din Takfiri terrorists were killed after Russian military aircraft carried out strikes against terrorist bastions in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib, according to Russian media.
The Arabic service of Russia’s Sputnik news agency, citing unnamed sources, reported that Russian forces were tipped off about the terror groups’ preparations for attacks against the positions of Syrian army troops.

“A squadron of Russian warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes given the intelligence obtained, indicating that groups of terrorists are preparing to launch coordinated attacks against Syrian army site,” the report said.

It added that the targets included command centers and operations rooms of the Takfiri terrorists on the western outskirts of Idlib city, south of the town of Ariha, and several areas in the Jabal al-Zawiya region.

So far six command centers, logistical equipment, arms depots as well as unmanned aerial vehicles used by the Takfiris, are completely destroyed, the report said.

The report also said that based on initial reports at least 26 militants were killed and many others wounded as a result of the raids.

The developments came a day after Russian fighter jets completely destroyed an arms depot used by HTS terrorists in the western countryside of Idlib. At least five Takfiri militants were also killed in the process.

Russia has been providing Syrian forces with crucial military assistance in the ongoing battles across the conflict-plagued Arab country.

The Russian assistance, which began in September 2015 at the official request of the Syrian government, has proved effective as Syrians continue to recapture key areas from remnants of the Daesh terrorist group and other foreign-backed terrorist factions.
