The World Health Organization confirmed on Sunday that the emergency department at Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza Strip had turned into a “bloodbath” and needed “rehabilitation” after it was severely damaged by the Israeli bombing.
The organization explained that a team from it and other United Nations agencies was able, on Saturday, to deliver medical supplies to Al-Shifa Complex, located in the west of Gaza City, in the north of the Strip, which is the largest hospital in the Strip.
The World Health Organization indicated in a statement on Sunday that “tens of thousands of displaced people” had taken refuge in this complex, which “lacked” water and food.
The organization added that the team that visited the complex described the emergency services as a “bloodbath” with hundreds of injured patients inside and new patients arriving every minute, noting that patients suffering from trauma are receiving treatment on the ground, and that means to relieve pain are very limited and even unavailable.
The organization reported that the medical complex is working at minimum capacity with a very limited medical team, adding that seriously ill patients were transferred to Arab National Hospital (Baptist) to undergo surgical operations.
