The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Sunday that “the disruption of the distribution of nutritional supplements in the Gaza Strip threatens the lives of more than 3,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition.”
The head of communications for UNICEF in the Palestinian territories, Jonathan Krekes, told the British newspaper The Guardian: “The ongoing situation in Rafah represents a disaster for children.”
Crix added, “The disruption to the distribution of nutritional supplements, especially ready-to-use therapeutic foods, to treat malnutrition among children, will stop the treatment of more than 3,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition.”
The Guardian quoted the Integrated Phase Classification for Food Security (IPC) group as saying that “southern parts of Gaza will also face the risk of famine in the worst-case scenarios, including the Israeli invasion now underway.”
The acting country director of the World Food Program in Palestine, Matthew Hollingsworth, called for urgent action to prevent this from becoming a reality, according to The Guardian.
