The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, reported on Monday that 50% of the agency’s institutions in Gaza had been destroyed, while “more than 500 people were martyred and nearly 1,600 were injured while they were in its headquarters.”

Lazzarini added that about 250,000 people were also displaced from Khan Yunis for the sixth or seventh time, while “there is no safe place in Gaza.”

He continued: “We are facing the loss of an entire generation in Gaza, and the children must be returned to a safe educational environment,” amid the lack of a safe educational environment.

Lazzarini again called for a ceasefire, saying that “the longer this war lasts, the deeper the rift becomes, and the more people suffer.”

Earlier, Lazzarini stressed the need for the “heinous attacks on relief workers in the Gaza Strip” to stop, stressing the need for the world to take action to hold their perpetrators accountable.

Lazzarini said that the war on the Gaza Strip “resulted in a blatant disregard for the mission of the United Nations, including heinous attacks on the employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, its facilities and operations.”

In this context, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees confirmed that UNRWA is not the only United Nations agency facing danger, as vehicles belonging to the World Food Program and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) were exposed to gunfire last April, indicating this targeting occurred “despite coordination with the Israeli authorities.”

This comes at a time when the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip continues for the 276th day, which has so far resulted in 38,193 martyrs and 87,903 others injured since the start of the war on October 7, according to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.

The Zionist enemy is besieging the Gaza Strip and preventing aid from entering it, which makes living conditions inside the Gaza Strip more difficult in parallel with the spread of epidemics and diseases.

The British medical journal The Lancet, one of the most influential academic journals in the world, expected that the number of martyrs in the Gaza Strip would exceed 186,000 after the end of the war as a result of reproductive diseases and infectious and non-communicable diseases resulting from it.
