US Deploys Submarine and Carrier Strike Group to Middle East: Pentagon
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has announced the deployment of a guided missile submarine to the Middle East and has ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to accelerate its arrival in the region, Reuters reported.
The Pentagon revealed the deployment following a conversation between Austin and Israeli Security Minister Yoav Gallant. Concerns were raised that Iran’s military preparations could indicate a potential large-scale attack on ‘Israel’, as reported by Axios reporter Barak Ravid.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden reiterated his warning to Iran about anticipated retaliation attacks on ‘Israel’. When asked for a message to Iran, Biden simply stated, “Don’t.” This comes after threats of “harsh punishment” from Tehran following Israel’s targeted assassinations in neighboring countries.
Back in April, Biden issued a similar warning to Iran before Tehran launched rockets and drones toward ‘Israel’ in response to an attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, which resulted in casualties including top generals from Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).
