US House of Representatives member Ilhan Omar said that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was humiliated during his visit to “Israel” to discuss a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and prisoner exchange negotiations.
This came during a press conference she held with Representative Cori Bush in Chicago, where the Democratic Party conference was held.
Omar added, “Now ask yourselves, how can our Secretary of State travel 11 times and plead to end an incident that we continue to provide the bombs and weapons that caused it,” referring to Blinken’s visits to seek a ceasefire and an exchange deal.
She wondered, “How can we not be ashamed of this humiliation that our administration’s representatives face? Saying that we respect international law is not only hypocritical, but also humiliating.”
Omar criticized the Biden administration for “refusing to acknowledge the genocidal war” being waged by Israel in Gaza.
Commenting on Biden’s statement that they are “working tirelessly for a ceasefire,” Omar said, “They should be ashamed of themselves for making such a statement, because we are providing these weapons.”
Omar addressed the Washington administration, saying, “If they really want a ceasefire, they should stop sending weapons.”
For her part, Bush said, “More than 40,000 men, women, and children have been killed in Gaza by weapons that the United States produced and paid for.”
