UNRWA: Scenes in northern Gaza are “shocking and terrifying”

The acting head of the media office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, Enas Hamdan, warned that the level of food security in the Gaza Strip is at risk, especially in the northern areas that are witnessing a humanitarian disaster, calling for the necessity of allowing the entry of vital relief supplies, including food, water, fuel and medicine.

According to the organization’s official website, Hamdan said in a statement today, Wednesday, “This is the situation that UNRWA and other international organizations have warned about for months. The scenes in the north are shocking and terrifying, and families have been under siege for more than two weeks.

Homes, infrastructure and even their facilities in those areas, such as a shelter and a school, have been bombed in the past few days, while not allowing sufficient supplies and relief aid to enter for the population.”

She explained that according to reports, “most food supplies have run out, there is not enough potable water and fuel shortages, and a large number of victims are falling in addition to the bodies lying in the streets, in light of the inability to access the necessary services and medical care, and the three main hospitals there are operating at the lowest capabilities and above their capacity, and two of them were directly bombed days ago.”

She pointed out that UNRWA employees continue to provide services despite all the challenges throughout the year, but they are besieged with the population and are trying as much as possible to provide them with what can be provided to them in these circumstances, and they are demanding the dispatch of medical teams to support their work and the necessary supplies.
