The Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that detainees from the Gaza Strip are subjected to harsh treatment by the Israeli enemy authorities, as their rights are increasingly violated.
A joint statement by the Authority and the Prisoners’ Club stated that the enemy forces commit these violations, especially during the arrest process and the first period of their detention in the camps.
The Authority and the Club stated that their legal teams recently succeeded in visiting about 30 detainees from the Gaza Strip, in difficult detention conditions in Negev and Ofer prisons, including a number of medical crews who were arrested from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, either from inside the hospital or through the so-called “safe passages.”
The statement indicated that the visit, which was conducted on the 6th and 7th of November, showed a high level of physical and psychological violations suffered by the detainees, reflecting the brutality of the methods practiced by the enemy forces.
According to the testimonies obtained by the legal teams, scabies has spread among hundreds of detainees, especially in Negev prison, amid ongoing medical neglect and deprivation of treatment, which exacerbates the health condition of the detainees in light of the increasing spread of the disease among them.
The prisoners complained of a lack of basic hygiene requirements, and their detention for long periods without adequate clothing, especially with the onset of winter.
The detainee (D.W.), who was arrested in March 2024 during the aggression on Al-Shifa Hospital, said that he was detained for four months in an area adjacent to Gaza, where he was subjected to severe beatings and continuous insults, indicating that his suffering continues today due to the spread of scabies among the detainees.
The detainee (L.R.) explained that the health conditions in Negev prison have become catastrophic, as about 100 out of 145 detainees in one section suffer from scabies, and they lack the necessary clothes and blankets in the extreme cold.
The detainees also appealed for help in providing their basic needs with the onset of winter, and providing winter clothes and means of heating, indicating that the lack of mattresses and blankets and pilinging them up between the infected and non-infected sections contributes to the spread of the disease.
“Sde Teiman” camp was a prominent address for torture crimes and horrific medical crimes against Gaza detainees, in addition to what was contained in the accounts and testimonies of other released detainees about rapes and assaults there.
