New American veto against Gaza ceasefire resolution
The United States used its veto power, on Wednesday, to undermine a Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Security Council voted on a draft resolution submitted by the non-permanent member states of the Council calling for an end to the war on Gaza.
The draft resolution called for all parties to abide by their responsibilities under international law regarding persons in their custody, and to provide basic services and humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.
It also called on the parties to implement UN Resolution No. 2735 and stressed that UNRWA remains the backbone of the humanitarian response in Gaza.
