Hamas delegation arrives in Cairo to discuss ceasefire in Gaza
A senior delegation from Hamas arrived in Cairo on Saturday evening to discuss Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, Egyptian media reported.
According to sources, the delegation, headed by Khalil Al-Hayya, met with the head of the Egyptian intelligence agency, General Hassan Rashad, and other officials involved in mediation efforts with the Israeli occupation.
This visit follows a trip by an Egyptian security delegation to Tel Aviv, where they brought forward a new proposal aimed at breaking the deadlock in ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
On Wednesday morning, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect, as announced by the US President in a press conference.
He stated that it would begin at dawn on Wednesday, local time in the Middle East, and emphasized continued efforts to reach an agreement regarding Gaza.
In May 2024, Hamas agreed to the “American” ceasefire agreement, which included a deal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of prisoners. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the deal, setting new conditions, including refusing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Philadelphi Corridor and preventing the return of displaced people to the north.
On the 422nd day of the conflict, the Israeli military continues its deadly assault on Gaza, committing massacres that have claimed the lives of dozens, mostly women and children.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the death toll has reached 44,382, and 105,142 injured.
