Armed groups said that they entered neighborhoods in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and banned approaching government institutions according to what Reuters reported, at dawn today, Sunday.
The agency confirmed, quoting two sources in the armed groups, that the Syrian capital, Damascus, had been entered, noting that “there were no indications of the deployment of the Syrian army.”
Reuters also quoted senior Syrian officials as saying that “President Bashar al-Assad left Damascus to an unknown destination.”
For his part, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali announced his readiness to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people, calling for the preservation of state institutions that “belong to everyone.”
Al-Jalali wished that all Syrians would think rationally about the interests of their country.
This came after a field source from the forces stationed on the fronts of Homs city confirmed to Al-Mayadeen that the Syrian army had withdrawn from the entire front, without its points being subjected to any attacks by militants, and that “the front was surrendered,” as the source put it.
Local sources from Homs said and confirmed to Al-Mayadeen that the militants had entered all the neighborhoods of Homs city, where no sounds of clashes were heard.
