The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced today, Saturday, that more than 40,000 Palestinians were forced to leave their homes in the occupied West Bank.
Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, said during the Munich Security Conference 2025 that the agency’s financial situation is bad and there is no clarity about the future.
She added that there is no other UN agency capable of providing the services provided by UNRWA, stressing that the agency can play a role within a comprehensive political solution in the Middle East.
Earlier, the UN agency revealed that its teams have provided food aid to more than 1.2 million people since the ceasefire began in Gaza.
In a post on its official page on “X” platform, on Thursday morning, it stated that 10 shelters for returning displaced families had been reopened (7 in Gaza City and 3 in the northern Gaza Strip).
UNRWA explained that the teams were able to repair a water well in Jabalia, which now provides safe drinking water to about 100,000 people, and stressed that the UN agency is the only entity with the capacity and infrastructure necessary to provide assistance of this size throughout the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and the Zionist enemy entered into force on January 19, 2025, through joint mediation efforts by Egypt and Qatar.
