Israeli National Security Council Chairman Tzachi Hanegbi revealed during a closed session of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that there is a direct dialogue between the Zionist enemy entity and the Syrian authorities, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The dialogue includes security and political coordination, and is being conducted under his personal supervision. This dialogue is part of potential efforts to normalize relations between the two sides.
Hanegbi considered Syria and Lebanon to be the two countries currently closest to normalization with the occupying entity in statements that confirm previous media reports about recently opened communication channels with Damascus.
Hanegbi also noted that previous statements by the head of the armed groups controlling the government in Syria, led by Abu Mohammed al-Julani, during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, included reference to indirect dialogue with Israel.
In this context, Knesset Member Merav Michaeli inquired during the session about "the possibility of exploiting the Israeli operation against Iran to advance further normalization agreements with countries in the region."
During the closed session, Hanegbi said, "Dialogue with the Syrian regime is not limited to indirect matters, but rather is taking place directly, daily, and at all levels."
