The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced that the Zionist aggression since October 7, 2023, has resulted in the martyrdom of 16,892 students and the injury of 26,638 others in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, in addition to the arrest of 760 students.
The losses were distributed between the Gaza Strip, where 16,664 students were martyred and 25,728 injured, and the West Bank, where 138 students were martyred and 919 injured. 926 teachers and administrators were also martyred and 4,452 injured, while more than 199 of them were arrested in the West Bank.
352 Public schools in Gaza were severely damaged, 111 of which were completely destroyed. 91 public schools and 89 UNRWA schools were also bombed and vandalized. 20 higher education institutions and 60 university buildings were completely destroyed.
In the West Bank, Israeli occupation forces stormed 152 schools and eight universities, and the walls of several schools in Jenin, Tulkarm, Bruqin, and Kafr ad-Dik were destroyed.
Approximately 788,000 students in Gaza have been deprived of education since the beginning of the offensive, with high school students still unable to sit for their exams for the second year in a row.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education launched 12 kindergartens for displaced children in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Qabatiya, coinciding with the start of high school exams in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and in 37 countries around the world.
At the same time, Israeli occupation authorities continue to close six UNRWA schools in Jerusalem and its suburbs since last May, exacerbating the difficult educational situation in the region.
With American and European support, the Zionist enemy has been committing a genocidal crime and imposing a total siege on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. This has resulted in more than 187,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, most of them children and women, in addition to more than 11,000 missing persons and hundreds of thousands of displaced persons. It is also waging an aggression against the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
