According to informed Egyptian sources, the "repositioning" map proposed by Israel in the ongoing negotiations in Doha regarding a 60-day truce in the Gaza Strip represents a dangerous shift that undermines regional and international efforts for a settlement and places Egypt in an unprecedented diplomatic and security dilemma.
The same sources explained to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the proposed map, which was leaked to the media, maintains Israeli military control over 40% of the Gaza Strip and forces hundreds of thousands of displaced persons to relocate near the Egyptian border. According to sources, this places Cairo in a delicate confrontation with the Palestinians in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
This, if sustained, "could destabilize the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel, which was built on the principle of not threatening Egyptian national security or imposing a new demographic reality on the border."
Tension and anxiety are prevailing within decision-making circles in Cairo, especially with the growing indications of the Trump administration's expected support for the vision of the criminal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the "reorganization of Gaza" after the war, including an Israeli military presence and control of the border strip with Egypt (the Salah al-Din and Philadelphi corridor).
The "repositioning" map proposed by Israel in the Doha negotiations in recent days indicates a dangerous shift in the course of the war on Gaza, which not only threatens the present and future of the Strip but also places Egypt directly at the center of security and political danger.
The map proposes maintaining Israeli military control over more than 40% of the Gaza Strip, while concentrating hundreds of thousands of displaced persons in a narrow area west of the city of Rafah, on the border with Egypt.
