The Prisoners' Information Office warned of an impending health disaster threatening the lives of prisoners inside the Negev Desert Prison, after a number of cases of Ascariasis were recorded in Section (28). This prompted the prison administration to completely isolate the section, without taking any real steps to contain the situation or provide the necessary health care.
The office said in a statement on Monday that the spread of this dangerous parasitic disease among prisoners, in an environment lacking the most basic requirements for hygiene and treatment, reflects the extent of the deliberate medical neglect practiced by the Israeli Prison Service. It confirms that the Negev Prison has become a life-threatening health hotspot.
It considered what is happening in the Negev Prison a silent crime being perpetrated against hundreds of prisoners, where medical neglect is used as a means of collective punishment and abuse. The outbreak of ascariasis is a warning bell that must be sounded by all concerned human rights and humanitarian organizations.
He called for the urgent formation of an impartial medical committee to examine prisoners in the Negev prison and to pressure the Zionist enemy to improve health and living conditions in the prison.
He called for the need to hold accountable those responsible for the systematic policy of medical negligence, to ensure immediate treatment and healthcare for those infected, and to protect the rest from the spread of infection.
He held the occupation authorities fully responsible for the lives and safety of prisoners, stressing that the international community's silence in the face of these repeated violations provides cover for the continued crimes against prisoners inside prisons.
Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist enemy has been waging a genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 199,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing. He also called for hundreds of thousands to be displaced and for famine to take the lives of many, including dozens of children.
