Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said on Tuesday that hunger has now become the newest killer in the Gaza Strip, calling for the safe and unobstructed delivery of aid to the population.

In a post on the platform “X,” Lazzarini wrote: “After five months of continuous attempts to replace the coordinated UN response with four Israeli military distribution points, hunger has become the newest killer in Gaza.”

He pointed out that “community distribution centers, supported by partners, had been providing food and aid to nearly two million people before famine spread throughout the Strip.”

The UNRWA chief stressed: “It is time to deliver aid safely, without obstacles, and with dignity,” emphasizing the urgent need to allow the UN and its partners to carry out their work.
