Senior Hamas official Mohammed Nazzal stated on Sunday that “for Hamas, weapons are linked to the existence of the occupation. Any call to disarm, set aside, or restrict them — if it means stripping the resistance of its arms — is completely unacceptable.”

In an interview with Sputnik, Nazzal stressed that the role of any international force proposed for deployment in Gaza must be clearly defined before the resistance can consider accepting or rejecting its presence.

He revealed that Hamas has a vision for Gaza’s post-war phase, centered on appointing a temporary administration composed of independent technocrats, tasked with running Gaza during a transitional period. This would be followed by general elections in both Gaza and the West Bank.

Nazzal emphasized that Hamas opposes any form of foreign mandate or international trusteeship over Gaza, stating: “The Palestinian people have the competence to govern themselves without external oversight.”

Last Thursday, Hamas announced a ceasefire agreement with Israel that includes humanitarian aid access and a prisoner swap. The movement called on U.S. President Donald Trump and other guarantor states to ensure Israel complies fully with the terms.
